The Center, as a world-unique interdisciplinary research platform with organic coordination of researchers specialized at respective senses, aims at the development of novel innovative devices, which improve dementia and sensory deficiencies which remains an important problem to be solved in the modern society, and realize realistic sensation in fields of Food Science, Medical Care, and Entertainment, etc. Interdisciplinary research and development on the next-generation five-sense device are being conducted combing the chemical sensing techniques corresponding to gustation and olfaction with the physical sensing technique of vision and audition information, and the vision and audition research which enables the elucidation of the mechanism of the sensory system of human as sensors and perceptual processing towards the high-order cognition of the brain.
